A score of at least 70% (77 correct out of 110) is required to pass. Test takers are allotted 4 hours to complete each test. All questions are multiple choice format with four answer choices provided for each question. Five to ten (disbursed throughout the exam) are considered "experimental" questions and are not scored. The questions are intermixed, and the exam does not label each question as national or state-specific. All candidates must submit a full set of fingerprints, and pass a background check. Qualifications to receive a License: A candidate must complete 75 clock hours of study at an NJREC-approved real estate school (search schools here), pass a school-administered final exam, and pass a state exam. Who Grants a License: Licenses are granted by the State of New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance (“NJREC”). Need of a License: A real estate salesperson must be licensed by the state of New Jersey to represent clients in the sale or purchase of real estate that is located in New Jersey.
